Ginger ~ 695 Yonge St ~ (416) 966-2424

Anyone reading this who’s familiar with downtown Toronto has likely walked by Ginger a hundred times.  Many of you have likely eaten here a dozen times as well.  For any out-of-towners (or city-folk who haven’t been introduced) looking for a fast & cheap & reliable & delicious meal at Yonge and Bloor, Ginger is an absolute must-try.

We’ve been hitting this Vietnamese hole-in-the-wall for over two decades.

Now, Ginger holds a special place in our hearts for a couple of reasons.

First, our first ever day-job (back in the day) was an easy walk at lunch hour.  The glory days of TV ad sales and snacking on a shoestring budget.

Second, we first met Ginger right around the time the Toronto Food Blog all started.  In fact, our very first blog post was a “Best of Yonge & Bloor” list.  Spoiler alert: Ginger made the list.

And while prices may have changed over the years, this neighborhood fixture’s consistently-solid bowls of awesomeness have really stayed the course.  There’s a reason why they’ve been around for so long and still draw a decent crowd everyday.

All the usual suspects are available on their menu from 11am to 11pm, 7 days a week.

We have always loved their rice dishes (Cơm).  Chili lemongrass grilled beef with chicken curry?  Uh, yes please.

Vermicelli Bowls (Bún) are a favorite of the missus.  The whole kitchen sink, including fried spring rolls and all the sauces!

The first Bánh Mì we ever tried was at Ginger.  Grilled meats, soft bread, crunchy pickled salad, sweet & spicy sauces:)

A dozen varieties of Phở  round out the menu.  Get a Large bowl with double the fixin’s for only a dollar more.

Located on prime strip of Yonge Street (@ Bloor), it’s tough imagine this block surviving much longer.

We’re getting the good stuff while we can.
