“Every time I make a run…”
OCHA’s, one of Vaughan’s best-kept secrets for top-shelf Jamaican, has opened a newish second location right in the heart of Leslieville. They’re immediately part of the conversation when comes to the best Caribbean cooking on Toronto’s lower eastside. We can’t get enough!
And by the length of some of the lines lately, word is getting out. Thanks for the recco, AZ! This is slow-cooked fast-food at its finest!
Oxtail ranks right up there as one of our favorite dishes of all time. What’s on offer at OCHA’s is a stew that’s been rendered to perfection.
Lots of meat on the bone (a theme throughout their menu). Lots of cartilage to chew on (just how we like it). Lots of gravy to be spread around (an absolute must).
The sign out front claims to have “the best jerk chicken!” We put that to the test by ordering a party-tray and crushing the entire thing (well, the protein anyways). Thick thighs save lives!
Nice one-two punch of smoke from the pan combined with that aforementioned gravy. Skin for days!
Jerk chicken doesn’t always travel well. It tends to sweat. But everyone around our table agreed that OCHA’s is doing a solid, fall-off-the-bone rendition of Jamaica’s most popular export.
Curry goat lunch puts the bite in your bark.
We absolutely love how they’ve incorporated all the veggies into this dish… a personal touch that has us coming back for more. Maybe we’ll see you in the line;)
