Located at Queen and Broadview, the White Lily Diner is the newest addition to the Riverside food scene. In the kitchen we have Ben Denham, who was the former head-chef at Electric Mud BBQ. His partner, Ashley Lloyd, works the front in the most charming of fashions. Together, they have turned the skinniest of spaces (formerly the Compri Catering prep kitchen) into a bright and cheerful diner. I popped in while the paint was still drying and got an early taste of what this place is all about… “serving quality comfort food made with quality ingredients.”

Their Full English Breakfast ($12) is right on the money. Two eggs (any style) with fresh-grated rösti potato, a house-made sausage and marinated mushrooms. As usual, I opt for fried tomato instead of toast and hot sauce over HP/Brown Sauce.

For lunch, there are a number of sandwiches, served with a delicious side salad and perfect dill pickles. The Classic Patty Melt (above) is a 6 oz. beef patty, lathered in American cheese sauce and poblano relish, served between grilled Texas Toast.  Their Turkey Club (below) is another winner… smoked turkey with house-cured bacon, green tomatoes and caraway mayo, piled high atop toasted 12-grain (baked on the premises).  All sandwiches are in the range of $12 to $14, and I look forward to going back to try their Pastrami.

The White Lily Diner also has rotating dinner & drink specials that keep me coming back any time of the day. You can even have a seat at the bar if you’re just feeling like a drink or two. I am not much of a dessert guy, but their donuts do look amazing. Welcome to the ‘hood, White Lily Diner. You’re a beauty.
