In the ever-evolving landscape of Leslieville lies a greasy spoon that has been around forever. Jim’s Restaurant has the self-proclaimed “Best Westerns” in the city… one of the many reasons why this place is here to stay.
Their Western Sandwich ($3.99) is indeed outstanding. Made with three eggs, it appears on about half of the patrons plates at any one time. All-Day Breakfasts are less-pretentious take on a Leslieville brunch. Two Eggs, Bacon/Ham/Sausage, Home Fries, Toast & Coffee are served quick and fast. And at only $4.55, it’s easy to see why Jim’s is always bustling with diners (both old and new).
Huge Peameal Sandwiches are available for $5.50. It’s basically like eating a couple of Pork Chops on Kaiser, far eclipsing what’s on offer at the St. Lawrence Market. Similarly, the Club House is an absolute colossus of Rotisserie White Meat and Maple Bacon. It’s served with Fries and a Greek Salad for $8.95. Add a $3 bottle of Labatt 50, and you’re in business.
Jim’s is one of those places you really need to taste to believe. Their unassuming exterior keeps the population down; however, once inside, there’s an obvious reason why this place has transcended gentrification for so long. Me and my work-buddies eat lunch here once a week, and though we have yet to meet Jim, Isabel always has us covered.
