Schnitzel Queen is the stuff of legend. A European diner located on Queen St E. in the heart of Moss Park, they’ve been serving-up enormous schnitzel sandwiches and scrumptious dinner plates for the past 25 years. And while new owner Karl Hubsch wasn’t able to woo any investors on the Dragon’s Den, he sure does keep the tradition alive by preparing the same great food in a new-and-improved dining room (with beer taps to boot).
Sandwiches are ridiculously large and come with a variety of toppings. My favourite is their Queen (Sauerkraut, Potato Salad & Roasted Onions); however, every once in a while I’ll switch things up and treat myself like a King (Roasted Bacon, Onions, Sauerkraut & Cheese). Similarly, the dinner plates come in large and larger sizes. Pick from Pork or Chicken and get blown away by the ample accoutrements of house-made potato salad and sauerkraut (mushroom sauce is optional and plentiful). It’s worth noting that both the “junior” sized sandwiches and dinner plates are more than enough food.
Since I started working at Queen and Broadview, I find myself getting Schnit-faced here at least once a month. Huge servings of delicious food on the cheap. The perfect trifecta. Schnitzel Queen truly does make the “best schnitzel in town.”
