Happy Canada Day, everyone! It’s burger time, buddy!
There’s been somewhat of a recurring theme to our recent #wednesdaysinscarborough missions. Trips often start or end with a pitstop at Kathy’s Grill. This family-run takeaway is multi generational; a well-oiled machine on Kennedy Road that does just about everything right.
They’ve recently received the Toronto Food Blog’s somewhat-prestigious award for the best Greek food in Scarborough. In fact, this joint just made an special appearance on our Podcast (click to listen). Have we piqued your interest yet? Keep reading for all the garlicky details.
Kathy’s Grill is truly our kinda place. There are lots of options that qualify as #lunchunder10bucks, and the entire menu is kid friendly. And that’s a good thing! Pork or Chicken Souvlaki on a Bun are their best seller. And it’s easy to see why. Hot off the ‘Que and served on a footlong bun with all the fixin’s. Ample dollops of cool, sharp tzatziki. You can tear these bad boys in half and have enough for lunch now and dinner later. We always crush them in one go, though. No messing around!
If burgers are more your speed, then it’s full steam ahead. Be sure to opt for the homemade, as they pack a bigger punch while still being really easy on the wallet. Enormous two-handers made even more colossal by how generous they are with the toppings. Bend at the knees, folks!
Truth be told, we’re not the biggest fans of French Fries. Let’s be honest, they’re often frozen and don’t travel particularly well (soggy when you get home). But if you were to dress them up with Feta Cheese, well, that’s a different story. Don’t sleep on their onion rings, either. Our daughters can’t get enough.
Kathy’s Grill also does a wonderful Greek Salad. Our favourite in all of Scarborough. We just love how they add red peppers to the mix. And their salad dressing has that certain je ne sais quoi that all legit Greek places are known for. If you’re feeling extra hungry, there are a half-dozen dinners on the menu that are sure to hit the spot. Pork or chicken souvlaki, gyros, fried fish, chicken fingers or steak… all come with rice, lemon potatoes and that gorgeous aforementioned Greek Salad. All that’s missing from this menu is a pork chop dinner… but we’ve politely let them know;)
So the next time you find yourself in this neck of the woods, be sure to stop in at Kathy’s Grill and tell them the Toronto Food Blog sent you. They’ll give your kids lollipops while you wait and will feed your whole family for much less $$$ than one might expect. Opa!!!
