Prohibition Gastrohouse & Oyster Bar – 696 Queen St. East – (416) 406-2669

Riverside’s best local, Prohibition has, without question, the best Hooch Hour in town. Pints of imports, premium bar-rail (Grey Goose and Single Malt included) and vintage wines are pulled for $5 (no questions asked) every day from 4pm ’til 7pm. Then they do it all again from 10pm ’til 12am. Any hour, Prohibition serves up the goods.

If it’s morning, or if it feels like the morning,  Prohibition’s all-day breakfast ($10) puts Rosti to good use. Add a couple of Eggs, some Bacon or Snags and a well-mixed Caesar, there’s a reason why the locals call this the best brunch in town.

If you happen to saunter in a bit later, get wrapped up in the Buckingham Blanket ($14), as seen below. Here we have razor-thin blue Ontario Flank Steak, Arugula, Caramelized Onions and Wasabi-Mayo, hand-rolled in toasty Naan bread, served with Frites and Red Wine Jus.

Chicken Lollipops ($3 each), are also a great lunch option. Over a pound of Dry-Rubbed Ontario Chicken Drumsticks are tossed in whatever sauce suits your fancy (including Ghost Pepper sauce). Pair this with the Caprese Salad ($15), and you’ve got a sidecar of Buffalo Mozzarella, Vine-Ripened Tomato, Baby Arugula, Fresh Basil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil & 20-Year-Old Balsamic to compliment your game.

For those of you between courses, did I happen to mention that Prohibition has, without question, the best Hooch Hour in town. Pints of imports, premium bar-rail (Grey Goose and Single Malt included) and vintage wines are pulled for $5 (no questions asked) every day from 4pm ’til 7pm. Then they do it all again from 10pm ’til 12am, too.

Dinner you say? Prohibition boasts an absolute classic… their 25-Minute Chicken ($19). Imagine half an Organic Ontario Chicken, fried in duck fat, and served with Jalapeño-Cheddar Biscuits and Veggie Slaw. Presented on a wood block with a meat cleaver, this is chicken at it’s best, on many different levels.

One of the more upscale places in Riverside, Prohibition has a thick crew of locals for a reason. With 3 types of Oysters (Malpaque, Kumamoto and St. Simon) always available, Duck Confit on the reg, live music & karaoke on the weekends, the best Hooch Hour in the city and wicked staff, Prohibition has got you covered… regardless of what time it is. Don’t believe me? Ask for Marlow or Damian behind the bar and they’ll explain everything to you.
