The Oak Park Deli is a neighborhood institution. Toula Nikolopoulos took over the family business in 2006 and has been serving made-to-order meals & catering to East York families & local school kids ever since. The shop is a local meeting place, and you will often see their logo on a house-league soccer shirt or find Toula’s brother Arthur roasting an entire lamb on the backyard spit for all the neighbors to enjoy. I’m so glad they’re within walking distance.
Deli sandwiches are made with your choice of freshly-baked whole grain bread or their famous cheese bread, an assortment of toppings, and your choice of Montreal Smoked Meat, Corned Beef, Sliced Roast Beef, Sliced Smoked Turkey, Sliced Roast Chicken, Genoa Salami, Sliced Cajun Chicken, Black Forest Ham, Tuna Salad, and Egg Salad. Their Turkey & Cheese, “tout garni”, is one of the best sandwiches around. After nine-months of cravings, it was the first thing my wife wanted to eat after our daughter Molly was born.
Pizzas are “build your own” and are ready for pick-up or delivery in about 30-min. We’ll often call on the way home from work so dinner is ready when we get there. We can get a well-topped, large pizza for around $20, and the assortment of toppings are immense…. Pesto, Mushrooms, Spinach, Zucchini, Pineapple, Black Olives, Artichokes, Green Peppers, Red Peppers, Grilled Red Peppers, Sliced Tomatoes, Onions, Sun-dried Tomatoes, Ham, Pepperoni, Salami, Bacon, Anchovies, Chicken Breast, Ground Beef and Sausage. Be sure to also ask about daily pizza specials.
Their catering is also on-point. I am fortunate enough that my day job (I am not a full-time blogger) orders about once a month. They deliver everything from cold sandwiches and salads to kick-ass lasagna. Our typical order consists of souvlaki skewers, rice, roasted potatoes, Greek salad, tzatziki and pitas… all for a price-per-person that doesn’t break the bank (it’s actually a really great deal). Give the Oak Park Deli a try next time you have a function. You won’t be disappointed.
