Knuckle Sandwich ~ 969 Coxwell Ave ~ (647) 748-7999

Knuckle Sandwich is new restaurant on the Olde East York strip of Coxwell that focuses on Meat, Bread, Greens, Spuds and Beer. Owners Ran Han and George Talidis and are East York boys and Goliath graduates. Like many of us locals, they have seen this spot come and go over the years. Something tells me, this place is here to stay.

Chicken sandwiches comes two ways: fried & grilled (both $9.50). Their Buttermilk Fried Chicken comes loaded with roasted poblano coleslaw, chipotle honey drizzle and garlic aioli. The Grilled Piri Piri is topped with bacon, avocado, tomato, arugula and onion jam. As for the other white meat, the Porcetta Sandwich ($9) is doused in salsa verde and grainy dijon, and finished with Parmesan cheese.

They also do a beer-braised Brisket Sandwich ($9.50) complete with horseradish aioli, pickled red onion and arugula. And if you prefer something from the sea (or if it’s Friday), Shrimp Po Boys ($9.50) come on a hogaie roll stuffed full of remoulade, pickles, tomatoes and shredded lettuce.

If you’re more of a herbivore or are visiting on #meatlessmonday, Knuckle Sandwich still has a lot to offer. The Charred Portobello Mushroom Hoagie ($9) sees 3 massive grilled Portobellos accompanied by goat cheese, eggplant, olive tapenade, arugula, tomatoes and herbed oil.  They also have one heck of a Kale Salad ($5 or $9) that’s loaded with Parmesan, cranberries, sunflower seeds, EVOO Vinaigrette and optional crispy prosciutto.  My daughter loves the Grilled Cheese ($6), and I love that it comes with Sriracha Ketchup. Add a side of fresh-cut fries, and there’s lots of love for vegetarians.

They have a fridge full of fantastic local craft beers ($6 tallboys) and their patio is officially open for the summer. Olde East York just keeps getting better and better. Really glad this spot is walking/waddling distance from my house. Perhaps the best part is that despite the size & sauces, knuckle sandwiches travel really well. We’ll order take-out regularly and have yet to be disappointed. Dare I say it? This place is a knockout.
